Check a limit without breaking your flow
A short description, application answer, caption or draft may need to fit a word or character limit. Paste the relevant passage into the counter, check the numbers and edit in the same place. The count updates immediately; there is no account, upload or save step.
Words are counted using the browser’s language-aware word segmentation when it is available. That is more useful than counting spaces alone for text that contains punctuation or languages without spaces between every word. A word-like sequence counts as one word; punctuation by itself does not.
Know which character count you need
The main character count includes spaces and line breaks. The second count removes whitespace. Visible characters are counted as graphemes, so an accented letter or a combined emoji is treated as one visible character when the browser supports it. Lines are separated by line breaks; an empty draft has zero lines.
Different websites can apply different rules. A form may count underlying text units, normalize line breaks or impose a byte limit instead of a visible-character limit. Use this counter while editing, then confirm the final acceptance in the destination form. This tool does not send text to a server or store it between visits.
Give the longer draft a place to live
When the quick count is finished, a writing app can help you keep the draft organized. Draft Light offers a Markdown editor, search and links between drafts. Volt focuses on quick notes and fast capture. See the actual Apple listings for platform support, the current download price and any optional purchases. Your text is not transferred into either app automatically.
