Metadata Cleaner Local runs on your computer in local Codex and ChatGPT desktop chats. Through that cleaner, Myworkingmemory receives no document contents, filenames or removed metadata. No cleaner analytics or network calls. OpenAI may process paths and tool results.

Set up the local desktop edition

The original hosted plugin described below still uploads files. Choose the Local edition and provide a local path instead of attaching a document. Its offline balance is separate.

This plugin inspects ordinary Word DOCX and PDF documents and creates a separately verified cleaned copy. It uses your hosted-service account. New accounts can verify an email for three free cleans, without a card or trial timer. Your original stays unchanged.

Open Metadata Cleaner in ChatGPT / Codex

Open the official listing above and choose Install (or Try in chat if already installed).
Connect your hosted account on the Myworkingmemory authorization page. Use your existing signed-in account when offered; otherwise enter your hosted account email and access key there. Never paste an access key into chat.
Select an ordinary PDF or Word DOCX up to 2 MiB and ask: “Inspect this document’s metadata before I share it. Keep the original unchanged.” Confirm the document scope before upload, then review the findings.

ChatGPT and Codex use the same hosted account balance when connected to that account. A host subscription does not itself grant Metadata Cleaner access. This page does not initiate a purchase or upgrade.

Choose, inspect, confirm, download

Select an ordinary DOCX or PDF up to 2 MiB through your host’s supported file attachment flow. Codex’s supported file-upload tool can take your selected local file path and upload it for hosted processing; merely mentioning a path does not clean the file.
Confirm that it excludes personal health records, payment-card details, government-ID numbers, passwords, API keys and other authentication secrets. Inspection reports categories without repeating private values.
Review the findings. Accepting tracked changes or removing hidden text or custom XML requires your explicit approval.
Download the verified cleaned copy within 10 minutes. The private link allows at most five fetches. Anyone with the link can use it while valid.

Visible information, form answers and metadata inside embedded images may remain. This is not redaction, anonymization or a promise to remove every kind of metadata. Unsupported or incompletely verified documents are refused.

Three useful requests

Before sharing: “Check this PDF for supported author and document-property metadata. Report categories without repeating private values.”
After inspection: “Create a separate verified cleaned copy. Ask me before accepting tracked changes or removing hidden text or custom XML.”
After cleaning: “Give me the cleaned-copy download and my remaining cleaning balance.” Download within the stated expiry.

Understand your hosted balance

Ask “Which Metadata Cleaner account is connected?” Accounts show the current number of available cleans across their active entitlements and any cleans reserved by processing in progress. Older account limits, if still applicable, are reported explicitly. Balances are shared across connected hosts, not allocated separately to each computer.

A verified successful cleaning consumes one cleaning credit. The matched offer has free inspection, nonexpiring credits and no per-pack processing-attempt limit. Service capacity and rate limits still apply. Three free cleans are granted once after email verification; signing up again does not refill them. Existing credits are not reset by an offer update. A temporarily unavailable balance report does not establish whether a debit occurred. A test or reviewer account is not a purchased pack.

If a response says cleaning_status_unavailable_retry_same_file, repeat the identical request once with the same file descriptor and confirmation choices. A temporary receipt may recover the result without another cleaning credit. If the issue continues, contact support; do not repeatedly resubmit or assume recovery after the receipt expires.

Local licenses cannot be imported into this hosted plugin.
Firefox	Local-processing version 0.2.1 is publicly available. In 0.2.0 and later, documents, filenames and removed metadata stay on your device; only essential account, allowance and payment checks use the network. Older 0.1.0 installations upload documents. Check your installed version. Paid access uses the hosted account; its weekly free allowance is separate.
Apple app	Metadata Cleaner: Word & PDF runs on-device on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. A separate app and purchase entitlement. Apple ownership does not automatically create a hosted account or local-platform license.

Privacy and support

The hosted service receives the selected document for processing; it cannot make the local edition’s “documents never leave your computer” promise. Temporary cleaned copies are encrypted in storage. Link expiry and later physical cleanup are separate. Your AI provider handles your attachments, conversation and returned results under its own policies.

Email dean@myworkingmemory.ai with the error message, approximate time and account email. Do not send documents, payment-card details, keys, tokens, signed input URLs or cleaned-copy download links. Remove private data from screenshots. Support can investigate account and usage records; this plugin has no hidden credit-grant command.
