Start locally

For local chats in Codex or ChatGPT desktop. PDF and DOCX up to 10 MiB, subject to complexity limits. Three free verified cleans and unlimited free inspection; no payment is needed to try it.

1. Download the local desktop package and extract it into a permanent folder. Requires Node.js 22.14 or newer already installed.
2. In Codex, register the extracted marketplace with codex plugin marketplace add /absolute/path/to/extracted-folder, then run codex plugin add metadata-cleaner-local@myworkingmemory-local.
3. Start a new local chat, select Metadata Cleaner Local, and ask to see your balance and inspect a local PDF/DOCX path. Do not attach or upload the document.
4. Review the inspection. Approve any reported content changes before requesting a separate verified cleaned copy.

Alternative: desktop Settings → MCP servers → Add server → STDIO. Name: metadata-cleaner-local. Command: node. Argument: the absolute path to the extracted metadata-cleaner-local/runtime/metadata-cleaner.cjs. Save and start a new local chat.

Check your first result

Ask: “Inspect [local PDF or DOCX path] for author and document-property metadata. Keep the original unchanged.” Review the categories, approve any reported content changes, then ask for a separate verified cleaned copy. The result gives the cleaned copy’s local path and your remaining balance. Open and review that copy before sharing; it is not an expiring hosted download.

Existing license and balance

Save your existing OpenAI local .mwm license on this computer and ask: “Import my Metadata Cleaner Local license from [absolute path].” Do not paste the key into chat. After import, ask to see your balance: a new 50-clean license adds 50 to the existing allowance on this installation. Duplicate imports add no credits. Local Codex and local Work using the same OS user share this installation’s balance. Other computers count independently. Hosted, Kimi, MiniMax and Apple balances remain separate.

When your allowance is exhausted, free inspection remains available. Import an existing compatible license or contact support about access. This page provides setup and existing-access information; it does not initiate purchases or upgrades.

Recover existing access

If your license email is missing, check the checkout email address and spam folder, then contact support with your purchase email and Stripe receipt or order reference. You do not need to buy again. Do not send document files, payment-card details or license contents. If the balance is unexpected, confirm you are using this Local edition on the same computer; hosted accounts and other platform licenses have separate balances.

What stays local—and what travels

Stays local: document contents, filenames, removed metadata, document hashes, cleaning state and operation journal. No analytics, hardware fingerprint or license verification request is sent by the cleaner. Reports return supported category labels, not extracted private values.

AI service: OpenAI may process the paths you provide and the tool results. Local cleaning does not make the AI conversation offline. Avoid attachments and do not ask other tools to upload or read document contents into chat.

Purchase and support: purchase and license-email details are processed online by Stripe/Link and our delivery provider. A support export contains license keys, paths and hashes; share it only if you choose to, after reviewing it. We do not automatically collect it.

Records used to deliver your license and support

Myworkingmemory LLC retains your purchase email, payment and checkout references, amount, selected platform, license ID and allowance, payment-event reference, delivery status and time, and any refund, dispute or goodwill-license records. We use these records to deliver and recover licenses, prevent duplicate delivery, administer refunds and disputes, and answer support requests. A receipt consistency fingerprint relates to purchase records; it is not a document fingerprint. Our application does not receive card numbers or card security codes.

Stripe/Link processes checkout and payment information. Vercel hosts the website and fulfillment service; Neon stores license and transaction records; Resend receives the destination email and signed license attachment to deliver it. Our email provider processes correspondence you choose to send to support. Providers may also process IP addresses, request timing, errors and security logs and keep backups under their own policies. None of these services receives your document contents, filenames or removed metadata through the local cleaner.

License, transaction, refund/dispute and goodwill records currently have no automatic deletion deadline. They remain until removed through administration, including as needed for ongoing license support, accounting and dispute handling. Support correspondence is retained while needed to handle the request and maintain related business records; no fixed automatic deletion period is promised. Hosting, payment, database and email providers may retain their own logs and backups separately; this application does not impose a fixed deletion deadline on those provider records.

You control document files, cleaned copies, local licenses, the operation journal and exported state on your computer. Uninstalling the plugin does not erase its separately stored balance/history or any purchase records held online. Keep your license and needed outputs before deleting local state. To request access to, correction of or deletion of information we hold about you, contact dean@myworkingmemory.ai. We may need to verify the request and retain records needed for transaction administration, accounting or disputes. Deleting records or disconnecting the plugin is separate from requesting a refund.

Support exports are optional and can contain paths, hashes and license material. Review an export before sharing it and send only what is necessary for your support request. We do not automatically collect exports or your cleaning journal. The local tool contains no analytics or advertising trackers.

Choose the correct edition

Metadata Cleaner Local is this desktop package. The existing published Metadata Cleaner hosted plugin uploads selected files for processing. Its behavior and existing purchases are unchanged. This direct download is not an OpenAI public-directory approval; local submissions require OpenAI partner access.

Metadata cleaning is not redaction or a guarantee of anonymity. Visible identifying content and embedded image metadata can remain. Review the cleaned copy before sharing.
